OK its been another long day. Jimmy and I spent the better part of the day installing and setting up an anti spammer hack that automatically compares new registrants information with that of a Spammers database. If the information belongs to a known spammer he will be denied access. The names of those that are denied access are listed in black in the visitors in the last 24 hours list. The anti spammer hack intercepted a known spammer within minutes of its implementation. It appears to be functioning correctly and allows us to ban any Spammers that do get through our defenses and add their information to the database so other forums using the hack will automatically deny them access as well. Another by product of the anti spamming hack is members will have to have their first post moderated. Since the site is not monitored 24/7 this means that a registered users first post may take some time to be approved. We apologize for the inconvenience but it was necessary to keep the Spammers a bay.
We finished that one up relatively quickly so we decided to tackle the Face Book integration next. The set up for the face book buttons in the site required us to update our privacy policy and restrict the registration policy to prevent user under the age of thirteen from registering with our site and forums. The amount of paper work involved and the fact that we have never had a member under that age made the decision a no brainier.
During this process we also made some changes to the site to be in compliance with Some California laws for privacy. The like function for face book seems to be operating correctly but the face book log in button at the top of the community areas appears disable. It appears as though there may be some sort of waiting time before the connect button is enabled while the face book folks give us a look. If it doesn't sort itself out soon we will get it sorted.
Tomorrow nights project is an over haul of the smilies and possibly the addition of some automotive avatars.
